Supernatural Quote Sign

Any Supernatural fans out there?

My daughters and niece are HUGE fans of the show.
They call each other Sam, Dean, and Castiel as nicknames,
and get together to binge watch the show
whenever they can.

My niece (who's nickname is Sam)
recently had a birthday.

I wanted to make her a sign with a Supernatural quote,
so enlisted the help of 2 of my daughters to help me.

After much deliberation, they came up with the quote,
"I lost my shoe."

I was confused as heck, and when I asked them
if my niece would understand the quote,
they answered with a resounding "YES!".

So this is what I came up with...

Her favorite colors are red and black,
so I used those colors for her sign.

Here's a close up...

I don't remember the dimensions of the sign,
and didn't take any photos of it in the process of making it.

Here's a basic rundown of what I did:
1. Cut the main piece of wood to the size I wanted.
2. Cut 1x2's to fit around the main piece.
3. Painted the wood.
4. Glued/nailed the frame around the main piece.
5. Painted the words on the sign.

There are tons of tutorials online on how to make signs.
I recommend THIS tutorial for making the frames,
and HERE'S some different options for the stencils.

My niece loved her birthday present!
And I was very happy to see that other family members
were just as confused as I was about the quote...lol!

I guess if you watch the show, you'll understand it!

Guess I should maybe start watching it.

'Be the Good" Sign

There's a wall in my dining room that has been bare since we moved in.
I thought I wanted to make a cute EAT sign to put there,
but have never followed through with it.

Then I saw a sign that I just loved,
and decided that was exactly what needed to go in that space.

I went right to work making my own version.

I had to borrow some paint brushes from one of my daughters.
This teeny tiny one is what I used for the majority of the time.

It was taking forever!!

Then I asked my daughter if she was SURE that she didn't have anything bigger.

"Oh!", she said.
"I thought you just wanted a little brush!".

That's not what I said at all!

She brought me a bigger brush,
and the rest of the painting was done in a flash!!

I just love my new sign!
It makes me smile every time I look in my dining room!

Patriotic Star Porch Decor

I'm short on patriotic decor,
so decided to pull out my wood and tools
and make myself something.

I was inspired by THIS PIN.
Here's my version.

Since I didn't have anything to make stars with,
I went with what I did have, and used a circle dauber.
Polka dots are just as cute, in my humble opinion!

Such a fun piece to decorate with for Independence Day,
or to leave up year round!

I think it's found a permanent place on my porch :)

'Nice Matters' Reclaimed Wood Sign

While at my in-laws house the other day,
I spotted this sign that we made
and gifted to my Mother-in-law for Christmas.

Well....if I'm being completely honest,
it wasn't actually given to her until January.

But it's the thought that counts, right?

She had been looking for a sign to put in her house that said,
"Nice Matters".

So we decided to make one for her.

Turned out pretty cute, if I must say so myself.

I love this saying,
and I love that she has it prominently displayed in her home.

Nice really DOES matter!

Reclaimed Wood Rooster Decor

When my sister-in-law and I first started our hobby with reclaimed wood,
I decided to make something I've wanted to put in my kitchen for a while now...
a rooster silhouette!

Isn't it cute?!

All I did was find a rooster silhouette online that I liked,
printed it out, traced around it, then hand-painted it on the wood.
After it dried I sanded over it to give it more of a distressed look,
then tied some jute around the wood to finish it off,

My rooster is one of my favorite decorations in the kitchen :)
